Study Shows Local Schools Getting Higher Test Scores

CLEVELAND -- There is good news about how students are doing in public, charter and private schools in Cleveland. A report released today shows higher marks on test scores. The study shows 13 Cleveland schools that increased test scores even while teaching students in mostly poor neighborhoods. One of those schools is St. Thomas Aquinas on Superior Avenue. Officials said the majority of the student body lives below the poverty level and the students are often several grades behind when they enroll in the school.The Cleveland Foundation along with the George Gund Foundation paid more than $20 million to figure out how to make schools better. The schools are on the west and east sides. The following schools are in the report:

- Citizens' Academy
- Cleveland School of the Arts
- Benjamin Frankin
- The Intergenerational School
- Joseph Landis
- Miles Park
- Orchard School of Science
- St. Francis
- St. Martin de Porres
- St. Thomas Aquinas

- Urban Community School
